FAQs

  • My rate for individual therapy sessions is $180 per session.

If my full fee is not accessible for you, I offer sliding scale options on an honor-system basis. I encourage you to reach out and inquire about my current sliding scale availability even if you feel hesitant. If my scale range isn’t accessible, I am happy to do some outreach across my therapist networks and give you some referrals for other providers that can honor your budget.

To make the cost of therapy more affordable, I also generate superbills for clients who have out-of-network benefits to submit to their insurance and get reimbursed for a percentage of the session fees More info in the sections below.

  • I am not currently in-network with any insurance, but I do accept HSA and FSA.

As an out-of-network provider, I am able to provide superbills for those who have and wish to use their out-of-network benefits. Clients who use these benefits tend to receive 60-80% of what they pay for sessions reimbursed by their insurance––usually via checks in the mail––though the exact amount depends on one’s specific plan.

  • The best way is to get in touch with your insurance directly to know for sure (usually by calling the number listed on your insurance card or communicating via an online portal).

Here are some questions I would recommend asking:

    • Do I have "out-of-network" benefits for mental health services, specifically those with service codes 90837 and 90834?

    • What is my out-of-network deductible, and has it been met?

    • Does my plan provide reimburse for sessions with a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC)?

    • What percentage of the psychotherapy services fee will be reimbursed to me?

    • What is my co-insurance?

    • How and when will I receive reimbursements after filing claims?

  • For the foreseeable future, all my sessions are online via a HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platform.

This is less common for me, but I have done phone sessions for folks who prefer this––if that sounds like you, I’m open to discussing that possibility during a free consultation.

  • This depends on the client, their needs/goals, and the rapport between us. That said, I tend to start sessions by asking clients how their week was, how they’re feeling arriving to therapy, and/or what they might hope to get out of our session today. We see where we go from there.

Most often, what happens in sessions is a form of conversation where folks share what they want to share and I reflect back what I’m hearing and ask questions (informed by the theories I use). I also believe in the value of slowing down, asking clients what sensations or feelings may be present in real time in and/or around the body, and (with consent) focusing on and connecting with those feelings. This reflects a combination of “talk therapy” and “somatic therapy,” which reflects my typical approach.

I also like to expand the notion of what therapy is supposed to look like. I welcome humor, creativity (listening to music, art-making and sharing, playing a video game together), using a white board app to map or write things out, pauses to take time to write, walk around, or go off camera to feel and release feelings if preferred, talking about joy and sitting with positive feelings just as much as the painful ones. Let’s see what else is possible based on what you might want or need!

  • My cancelation policy is a “life happens” policy. This means you’re welcome to cancel or ask to reschedule at any point leading up to the start time of your scheduled session without worry of being charged a fee, though letting me know with as much notice as possible is appreciated. If you don’t communicate a cancellation or rescheduling request in advance and don’t show up to your session, I will wait 15 minutes before considering it a “no-show.” I do charge the full fee for no-shows unless something dire has come up.

It’s important for me to offer as much flexibility as I can, especially for clients who are disabled and experience chronic illness, while still honoring my time and our mutual accountability to our work together.

  • I primarily use internal family systems/parts work, relational-cultural therapy, and feminist therapy but will bring in other modalities based on each specific person and their needs and goals.

I see therapy as not just a space or service, but rather a relationship––hopefully one where you can feel safe enough with me and I am able to earn your trust over time. As a relational therapist, I believe (and research supports that) healing and growth happens when our alliance is strong––when you trust, feel safe enough with, and understood by me.

I also draw from decolonial + anti-oppressive frameworks, abolition, restorative + transformative justice and anti-carceral approaches to mental health. Happy to share more about what this all means and looks like during a free consultation if helpful.

  • The next step is to contact me to set up a free 15-30 minute consultation call to see if we are a good fit for each other. You can do so via email or through my contact form here.

If we both feel there’s potential for a good fit based on the call and you want to move forward, we can schedule a first session. I’ll also send you some digital paperwork to review and complete before we meet.
